A Self-Destructive day.

A Self- Destructive Day.
8/21/2014

So I woke up to high readings yesterday of 122. Now I know thats still not that bad to warrant a melt down but that is after about 12 hours of not eating and what I did eat was very low in carbs. I ate 85 grams of carbs and around 1600 calories. I honestly expected my number to be much lower. As my morning progressed, I ate two whole wheat english muffin sandwiches with turkey sausage and egg white. I waited two hours to retest and my number went up even more. The test came out with almost 200 for my Blood sugar level which needless to say, discourage me to no end. I tested myself again 2 more hours later and it still read 200. At that point I just gave up and started  eating anything and everything. I did not bother to test anymore the rest of the day. When you work so hard to inform yourself and do the right thing to be better and suddenly nothing makes sense you feel like it's all a waste of time and work. It actually isn't. If I had been in a better place in my head I would have just kept on track and not given in to the frustration of it all. What I did yesterday was pointless and just all round stupid. However, today is a new day and all I can do now is put yesterday behind me and keep working to get those numbers back down and stabled. I can't allow myself to fail. Stumble and fall once in a while is human as long as I don't give up. Yesterday was a day of self-destruction but today I am letting yesterday go and getting back up from the dust and dirt of self pity and moving forward to improve my life and my health. If you fall (and you will) just try to keep in mind that it's just one day of missteps and weakness. It does not define you nor can it destroy all your hard work.It is just one day out of many days for you to keep going and getting it right. We fail when we stop trying. Keep going and remember... WE GOT THIS!

  1. Blogging is good, Allen. The words that stand out for me are: "..after 12 hours of not eating...." I'm assuming this was an overnight fast, because of course, not eating for that long during the day is madness. Even overnight, I find that 12 hours is just too long for my body. It goes into "starvation" mode and starts producing sugar so that I can survive. This happens to a lot of people.. called the "dawn phenomenon" where the sugar is more elevated after a fast than any other time. To fix this, I have an evening snack, around 9 to 9:30 or so (depends on when you go to bed and get up). This snack should be light but should also contain protein. My faves are 1/2 cup yogurt with 1/4 cup raw, unsalted walnuts, pecans and/or almonds; celery sticks stuffed with nut butter; apple slices with nut butter for dipping; raw veggies with some hummus dip, etc. I know your doctor has probably told you to fast for 12 hours prior to a blood test, but try tightening that up a bit and see what happens. :)_
