Support
groups for Diabetes on Face Book.
The last
couple of days I have been feeling a bit on the depressed side. I thought I
would give some of the support groups on Face Book a try just to have a real
conversation of how I was feeling. One group is called “So you know you’re a
Diabetic when…” struck my fancy and decided to join and post. Just to see if it
was an active page with real people and not these obsessive folks that just to
gain attention. I got into a nice chat with two nice folks Ed and Roxie. The conversation
was much more productive than I would have thought it would be. I got some
really good information from both of them. I actually felt a bit better after
the chat was over. It’s kind of a big deal to me because I am always questioning
people’s motives but at the same time I am trying to learn to “Trust”. This is
not an easy task for an old fart like me. I have to admit… I was feeling pretty
proud of myself for being more open. I mean… I wasn't an open book but I did manage
to allow myself to at least allow them to see the first page or two. I was
thinking I would post my blog link on the group but it does seem self serving
and needy. I decided to just skip that idea and just chat and learn.
On another
top I am set up to start my Diabetes class next week AGAIN! However the head
instructor did inform me that I had to use a wheelchair to get to the
classroom. It is a long walk for me I guess. Since I use a cane and I have my
laptop and other crap to carry with me… using a wheelchair just seems logical. Last
time I was there my Anxiety was pretty high. I am hoping I can stay calm this
time and just enjoy the class. I am looking forward to being a part of this
class and learning as much as I can. They say Information is power and I am
going to grab as much power as I can to overcome my personal fears. If you have
the chance to check out some of the Diabetes support groups on Face Book or any
other web site… go for it. It may or may not be for you but it’s worth a try.
Happy Hump day All!
